ANOLON ADVANCED – RESTAURANT TESTED AND PROFESSIONAL CHEF APPROVED, COULD IT BE THE ONE??
The name Anolon comes from hard-anodized and the suffix meaning one.
So if you’re searching for hard anodized non-stick cookware, this could be literally be the ONE!
For those of you who don’t know, Anolon Advanced is made by Meyer, the same company that makes Circulon Cookware, Rachael Ray cookware and KitchenAid cookware to name a few.
Recently a lot of readers have requested a review of Anolon Advanced non-stick cookware with many asking the question:
IS THERE MUCH OF A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CIRCULON AND ANOLON COOKWARE?
Where Circulon cookware has the textured hi-low circles on the surface, Anolon was launched as a smooth interior alternative in order to give choice to consumers.
- 3 quart saute pan with lid
- 1-1/2 quart saucepan with lid
- 3-quart saucepan with lid
- 8-quart stockpot with lid
- 8-1/2-inch open skillet
- 12-inch deep skillet with lid
WHAT IS IT MADE OF?
The Anolon Advanced set is made of heavy gauge, hard anodized aluminium. Gauge means thickness and heavy gauge means the pans will deliver heat more evenly and will not warp or dent with usage
WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE?
Anolon advanced hard anodized cookware has a sophisticated and professional appearance. It comes in two variations, black interior and exterior or a warm bronze finish with deep chocolate interior. Both versions have domed glass lids.
WHAT ABOUT THE HANDLES?
Anolon Advanced cookware features their proprietary SureGrip handles. The handles are made of stainless steel with a silicone rubber covering. This gives the handles a very comfortable grip and since there is no plastic, the handles are oven safe up to 400F. The handles are also double riveted which means they are extra strong and will not fall off.
WHAT ARE THE LIDS LIKE?
The Anolon Advanced cookware set comes with glass lids. This are made of domed, tempered glass which means they are break resistant. They are also a tight fit on the pans, enabling you to form a seal which helps with cooking.
Personally I love cookware with glass lids because it allows you to be able to look at the food without having to break the seal and lose all the heat and steam.
However, if your preference is a set with stainless steel lids then you should look at the Circulon Infinite hard anodized set.
WHAT ABOUT THE NONSTICK COATING?
Like Circulon nonstick cookware, Anolon cookware also uses Autograph 2 for its nonstick coating.
This nonstick coating is made by DuPont™, the same company that makes Teflon.
Think of Autograph 2 like a very high grade of Teflon. It’s an advanced 3-layer nonstick coating which is applied to both the inside and outside of the pans. According to DuPont™, it is one of their most advanced nonstick coatings and is perfect for avid cooks who are looking for quality, performance, and extra long life.
Autograph 2 has been restaurant tested and approved by professional chefs. What this means for you is that it is a durable coating that can withstand a lot of use and abuse and it is metal utensil safe. Though as The Cookware Advisor, I would always recommend the use of plastic, silicone or wooden utensils to prolong the life of your cookware.
CAN YOU USE THESE IN THE OVEN?
These pans are safe in the oven up to 400 F making these pans ideal for dishes that start on the stovetop and finish in the oven.
WHAT ABOUT THE BROILER?
Anolon Advanced cookware is not safe under the broiler. In fact, it is never recommended to use a non-stick coated pan under the broiler as that would cause the coating to deteriorate. While this cookware is safe up to an oven temperature of 400 F, fact is that under a broiler, the temperature can easily reach 450-500 F at which point the non-stick coating would start to lose its non-stick properties.
IS IT DISHWASHER SAFE?
No, not according to the manufacturer. But because it is coated on both the inside and outside with a very high quality non-stick coating, cleaning these is very easy. As a point of interest, several users report washing these in the dishwasher with no ill effects. However at The Cookware Advisor we never recommend using a dishwasher to wash non-stick pans. Good cookware is an investment and its always a good idea to take care of your investment by hand washing the pans.
CAN IT BE USED WITH INDUCTION COOKTOPS?
No, Anolon Advanced is not induction compatible. For an induction compatible hard anodized cookware set, consider Circulon Infinite.
DOES IT INCLUDE A WARRANTY?
Yes, it comes with a limited lifetime warranty against defects and workmanship.
WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING
High ratings everywhere!
Anolon Advanced is definitely a high quality non-stick set and even passes the seal of approval of GoodHousekeeping.com. You can read more here. One user said that the only regret you will have is that you didn’t buy them sooner!
ARE THERE ANY COMPLAINTS?
As with anything in life, there are some minor complaints with Anolon Advanced.
- Since the handles are attached with rivets instead of being welded, food can get into the crevices, making it a bit harder to clean. A minor point especially when you offset with the strength of the double riveted handles.
- There are no vent holes in the lids. This is not an issue if you are simmering food but can create a bit of a high-pressure vacuum situation at higher temperature cooking. The solution is to leave the lid a little ajar if you are.
A quality cookware set that has one of the best non-stick coatings in the market. It is designed to last, has been tested and approved by professional chefs and even lives up to the rigors of restaurant use. For the value it offers, it is well priced and will give you years of great cooking experience.
The Cookware Advisor gives the Anolon Advanced cookware two thumbs up!
